GROUP SUCCESS AT SAN SIRO FOR ACTION HORSE

08 Jun 2010 | Posted by admin

Congratulations go out to our client, Actionhorse, on the success of Corcovada in Milan this weekend.

“Corcovada, a three-year-old filly by Captain Rio won a Gr. 3 event at San Siro on Sunday afternoon. She was purchased by www.actionhorse.ie, assisted by Edward Daly Bloodstock, in February for Janda Bloodstock.

This was the owner’s first venture into racehorse ownership and only the second start for the filly in their colours.

Action Horse was set up last August to provide an alternative outlet for yearlings due to the expected problems in the middle to lower sectors of the market.

The company currently has a pilot project in operation with Janda Bloodstock in Prague, with the first success gained at the Central European Sale at Paradubice Racecourse last October where they sold seven yearlings.

In February the company recruited Edward Daly to aid with higher-end purchases and hope to have further success this year.”

Everyone at clickstream wishes Matty Murtagh and his team at Actionhorse continued success in the future.

eircom target illegal file-sharers

28 May 2010 | Posted by admin

eircom has begun a piracy crackdown which could see customers cut off from the net for a year.

The country’s biggest ISP has begun sending letters to those identified as illegal file-sharers.

Ireland is the first nation to implement such a system. France is also planning to introduce a similar policy.

Educational campaign

eircom is Ireland’s largest internet service provider (ISP), accounting for around 40% of the market.

The Irish Recorded Music Association (Irma) has begun supplying eircom with “thousands of IP addresses”, from which the ISP will initially cross-reference about 50 per week to extract the physical address of identified net pirates.

Irma is employing net monitoring firm Dtecnet to trawl file-sharing sites and identify pirates.

It will look specifically for people who are sharing, rather than just downloading, content illegally.

Initially they will be sent a letter and a follow-up phone call from a new unit set up by Eircom to deal with the issue. They may also get a pop-up warning on their screen.

If they are identified a third time they will have their service withdrawn for a week and, if a fourth infringement occurs, will be cut off for a year.

“There is a strong educational element, it could be that customers have a security issue with their home wi-fi or they might not know what kids are doing online,” said eircom spokesman Paul Bradley.

The unit will also direct customers to legal alternatives.

“We are launching an online music service later this year,” he added.

Court action

After three months the effect of the campaign will be assessed and, if necessary, tougher measures including permanent disconnection could be introduced.

“We don’t expect many people to get to phase 3 and we are a long way from looking at suspensions,” said Dick Doyle, the director general of Irma.

The pilot scheme is the conclusion of a long-running dispute between eircom and Irma.

It took the ISP to court in January 2009, saying it was not doing enough to protect the intellectual property of its members.

These include EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner.

The High Court ruled in Irma’s favour and a challenge, issued by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner, was also over-ruled earlier this year.

Where does time go!?

01 Mar 2009 | Posted by Mark

Wow, the New Year seems to have only started and already we’re in March! So time to do a quick update on what’s been going on in the world of clickstream!

Like a lot of businesses, we faced 2009 with a lot of uncertainty. Compared to other years, it was very difficult to make plans around budgets, staffing, expansion, consolidation so there’s been a certain amount of treading water to see what way the market is behaving before making any major company strategy decisions.

With 2 months gone by, I’m pleased to see that new business enquiries are strong which is encouraging. Unfortunately for some of the businesses making enquiries though, the need to develop or improve their web presense is being triggered by a downturn in their fortunes and a change of online strategy is being adapted to try and stimulate their own business.

Hopefully, a lot of companies now approaching us will benefit from the knowledge we’ve built up over the years and we can help them ride out the current situation. Certainly, we would very much believe that any investment in web holds the best potential for business development.

In terms of existing clients, we’ve tried to be proactive with as many as possible by sitting down with them and discussing their web strategy for the year ahead - these discussions always tend to be productive. In a strange way, the difficult environment has made our clients more focussed on their web goals and it almost makes our life easier. When the client has very clear goals, we tend to get very clear direction and as any designer or programmer will tell you, that is exactly what they like!

One interesting development with one major US client occurred last week when I took a phone call from a New York-based Executive Director. We had developed a major project for his Institute during 2008 which launched last Summer. The project had a global educational audience and the launch was a great success. However, due to 2009 budget constraints, the decision to outsource the task of site maintenance to India was taken at the start of the Year.

But following 2 weeks of site crashes, domain names being pointed at virus-ridden servers, lack of response to urgent communications and so on, the phone call came asking us to take back control of the site.

It was heartening to see that this client belatedly realised what they were getting when using an Irish company - and that Irish companies can compete globally once they are offering a premium service!

So with the assurance that if you offer a quality service, your business can still prosper in difficult times, and so we face 2009 with cautious optimism!

PS - We hope to bring you news of our Birmingham operation soon. More pieces of puzzle falling into place each week with an April launch of operation expected
